Energy management systems are gain importance for the operation of industrial sites. This article extends their usage to investment planning of green and brown field projects of sites and plants. The presented method closes a gap between simple spreadsheet-based tools and complex simulation studies, offering sufficient accuracy while using limited data available during early planning phases. The developed framework provides accurate investment decisions by integrating operational aspects into the planning phase. We outline the principal functionality of the developed framework and share insights from case studies in three different industrial application domains. Finally, we describe the faced challenges and share lessons learned.
