Substitution of case hardened gearbox components through contour true induction hardening

Case hardening is the most applied surface hardening method due to its relatively simple appliance and the good mechanical properties achieved. On the other hand, this method causes very significant distortion due to the through heating which leads to extensive costs. For this reason, the surface induction hardening provides a reasonable solution when applied the right way, which shall be explored by confronting the two technologies.
