A large number of small and medium sized biogas plants (<1.000 m³/h) exist in Germany. Upgrading the produced biogas and feeding into the public natural gas grid for single plants fails because of low profitability. Based on this situation it makes sense to build up a cluster of biogas plants connected to a central upgrading and feed in station. The following paper shows a brief overview about the specifics of transporting raw or less treated biogas. The paper contains a collection of relevant biogas components, which are of importance for the planning of biogas collecting networks. Additionally main aspects of design and safety components are explained. This paper based on a study in charge of DVGW where also economical questions are discussed.
