This technical paper deals in two parts with the process- and system-related needs and requirements for the planning of heat treatment and hardening plants for re-cooling systems and in particular the technology of evaporative cooling via cooling towers, which is the most widespread in this field. In the first part, aspects and designs of recooling systems were presented, which showed the practitioner, among others also from hardening plants, possibilities of „own planning as a guideline“ (see Process Heat 4/2022). The second part of the publication now available shows the aspects for safe operation as well as the legal requirements in connection with the interpretation and practical implementation of the 42nd BImSchV and the VDI 2047-2 as well as possibilities for water treatment, water treatment and control. The 42nd BImSchV and VDI 2047-2 have brought together many recommendations from the fields of work, health and technology. There are specifications on the planning, construction and operation of evaporative cooling systems, especially from the point of view of hygiene conditions. These obligations and necessities are complex, but can be handled and implemented with appropriate support. However, one has to deal with this topic. This article provides information and practical instructions on this.
