When constructing new pipelines, narrow constraints exist with regard to schedules, processes, and specifications in all phases from the delivery of the steel pipes to the construction of the pipeline and finally the approval of regular pipeline operation. Given the multitude of individual processes and operations, a key factor besides starting planning and logistics in good time is an early integration of all companies involved. This article describes the first continuous use of barcodes and scanner systems in the construction of a pipeline from the steel pipe production at the manufacturer's works to laying and commissioning the pipes. It details a modern solution for fast, effective, and cost-optimized recording and transmission of pipe and certificate data that replaces manual data transfer.
