The fundamental operating mode of the slide valve, the classic shut-off valve used in drinking water applications, has for decades been based on the same design principles. According to the DVGW statistics the main problems of shut-off valves are still functional unfitness, corrosion and leakage (Fig. 1). With new impetus and above all unprejudiced; it is high time we focussed on a new and more contemporary approach to solving these problems.
