Electromobility and the electric motor can make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions. The scope is known to the automotive industry, so that various development centers have been geared to this in the past. The increasing quantities of the necessary components of an electric motor lead to a necessary machine acquisition at the suppliers and partly directly at the OEM’s in order to establish production lines. A core component of the electric motor is the rotor shaft, which is subjected to high stresses due to the rotational speed of more than 20,000 rpm. Induction hardening is used to increase the strength of local areas in order to counteract dynamic loads and shear forces. The SMS Elotherm machines developed for this purpose meet all necessary requirements and focus on the customer’s product quality.
