When melting steel and iron, a temperature control specific to all production steps is necessary. The ladle temperature is first adjusted to the respective tapping temperature with burners in preheating stations. To ensure sufficient heating of the refractory material, the ladles are heated at an early stage. The preheating stations are rarely in the focus of optimization and the heating process is usually detached from the process control system. It is precisely at this point that large savings can be achieved with little effort and costs. In the following, possibilities are shown to adapt the heating of the ladle to the process in order to reduce the use of fossil fuels and thus CO2 and NOX emissions.
