Non-destructive classification of surface hardened stainless steels
Low temperature surface hardening of stainless steels has been well known in the industry for over two decades. Historically, non-magnetic austenitic stainless steels were treated and non-destructive classifications for surface hardening were not possible in the past. With photothermal radiometry, a new and promising technique for non-destructive testing was successfully applied for the first time to low temperature surface-hardened stainless steels.
