The effort to develop a new type of industrial furnace can be reduced by facilitated numerical simulation tools. This article describes numerical studies of the flow and temperature distributions in an aluminium melting furnace. The aim of the studies is increasing efficiency of the furnace by reducing the melting time of the inserted material. After validating the numerical model, the influence of the level of liquid aluminium on the temperature of the flue gas was studied. Further simulations were carried out to check the influence of a rotation of the burner on the temperature distribution on the melting bridge.
