As a contribution to the reduction of energy use in industrial furnaces, LOI Thermprocess GmbH (a member of the Tenova LOI Italimpianti Group) has developed a new generation of heating hoods. The new technology has proved itself during one year of operation with Hoesch Hohenlimburg GmbH; it was possible to obtain 12 % energy saving using significantly increased air preheating temperatures at the same time as achieving very low NOx emissions of 70 mg/m³. This is the first time that flameless oxidation has been used in bell-type annealing plants.
