Nowadays aluminium is a basic material for the automobile engineering. The automobile industry continuously develops new parts used for engines, chassis suspensions, wheels or chassis structures for cars. The parts are designed increasingly complex, thinner and lighter. The requirements of the automobile engineering are steadily increased and require the development of new foundry alloys. In order to obtain the mechanical properties called for, many of these parts need effective heat treatment with parameters adapted to the material and component. The material is solution-annealed, quenched and then age-hardened at elevated or low temperatures. This article presents a heat treatment plant and quenching processes for aluminium components.
