A demand for lower energy consumption and low emissions resulted in the application of regenerative burner technology also in forging furnaces. Regenerative burners installed in side walls and burning above the charge have already been often used, especially in large furnaces. Meanwhile, regenerative burners with flat flame are increasingly used in forging furnaces. They are installed similar as conventional burners in the side walls and enable substantial energy savings compared with systems involving a central recuperator. This article describes the application of regenerative flat flame radiation burners in a forging furnace.
